Karatsu-yaki black-brown matcha bowl (type: kurogaratsu) made by Chiharu Kumamoto of Akamizu Kiln in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture.
Karatsu ceramics, dating from the 16th century, are designated as a "national craft technique" by Japan. It is characterized by its rustic texture, using raw, rough clay and a variety of decorative techniques.
