Pewter tea box / Kyoto SEIKADA "Itome"
Pewter tea box made by the house ‘Seikado’, founded in Kyoto in 1838 during the Edo period, which is today the only workshop specializing in pewter handicrafts in Japan. Although in the past, pewter handicrafts in Kyoto were only accessible to the upper classes, the Seikado House has made every effort to create objects that are both respectful of tradition and rooted in modernity. Because it does not rust easily, pewter is mainly used for making kitchen utensils. There is also a whole tradition related to tea in Kyoto. The pewter tea sets made in our workshop are essential to any good tea ceremony.
